General Overview – An Air Loop is a front flip in a hole. Preferably with a lot of POP!!!

Due to current boat design people are learning to loop before they ever learn to cartwheel. This move isn’t necessarily hard; in fact it is fairly easy, the hard part is doing everything at the right time in order to do huge loops.

Prep - Stretch as always. That helps me with everything I try in a kayak. A loop enhancer is a good idea, a beach ball is the most common choice.
Overview:

How To -

Step 1 – Get high on the pile. This can be easily accomplished by doing a flat spin in most holes. Other holes this could take more effort. Once ontop you need to line up the boat so you are looking straight at the oncoming green water.

Step 2 - Plug you boat as deep as you can into the green water in front of you. The more you plug into the green the bigger the pop! If you find that you can get pop but the boat won’t begin to rotate, you might want to initiate where the foam meets the green water.

Step 3 - As soon as you fell like your boat is as deep as it will go start to stand up. Jumping off your foot pegs or bulkhead will enhance this motion. Reach for the sky. The higher you stand up the more pop you will get on your loops.

Step 4 - As soon as you reach the peak of you pop huck your body forward like you were trying to do a front flip. This begins your rotation. As soon as you finish this step, immediately begin the next. If you wait to start the next step you aren’t going to rotate fast enough. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that this move is what makes you boat rotate. It only starts it.

The most important step is the next one, and the sooner you start the next step the better your loops will be!

Step 5 - Put you paddle in the water behind your head, kick your feet away from you, and lean back. This is what makes the boat rotate. This is the most crucial step in making the loop work.

Step 6 - Sit back up in your boat and maintain your control in the hole. You may need to take a stroke or two to insure that you will stick the move.

Step 7 - You have looped and hopefully it was huge!!! Now just enjoy and listen to your buddies in the eddie go crazy!

Once you get this down the Space Godzilla is next. You have all the tools you need to Space Godzilla. The Godzilla is even a bit easier to stick due to the strokes you take while performing the move. So Check it out! Go huge!
