The definition - Vertically stalling the kayak on its bow.

Prep -There are two ways to get your kayak vertical on its bow for the bow stall. The first is to throw the first part of a Flat Water Cartwheel. The second way to get the kayak vertical is by doing a Plowing Ender.

How To -

The Move - Every kayak has a balancing point, this varies with body weight and build of the paddler. It is now time to find your own balancing point.

As the boat becomes vertical place your paddle out in front of you with both blades as flat as you can just underneath the surface of the water. The further from the boat you can place your paddle the better the foundation of your bow stall will be, a wider foundation means more stability.

With your paddle you can now control every point of balance of the boat. If you begin to feel yourself settling back down against the hull of the boat, pull up on your paddle. With the paddle being underwater you have resistance to pull agains. If you begin to fall over frontward, push down on your paddle. If you start to fall right, push down with your right blade. Going over to the left; push down with your left blade.

This is a trick that requires lots of practice and patience but when you are done you will be able to keep the boat vertical on the bow indefinitely and impress all the rafters and canoers floating by.
