The definition - A vertical 360 degree rotation of the kayak in flat water. Prep - You should start out by balancing on your edges just sitting in flat water. Having some understanding or practice with the Whirly Bird will help. This trick will explain how to throw flat water cartwheels on your left side, throwing them on your right is just an easy switch in directions. How To - The Move -Start out on your left edge and pump your bow into the air by taking a forward stroke on your left side. After doing this use the same paddle blade and smash your bow into the water using a strong back stroke. Your success will be measured in how well you are able to maintain balance on your left edge and by correct paddle positioning. Once you are able to get your bow underneath of you and your boat is vertical, immediately look over your left shoulder as you plant the power face of your right blade in the water. You will then land on the right edge of the kayak, as this happens pull on the power face of the blade in a forward stroke motion while looking back over your left shoulder. This will send your stern underneath of you and will be ready to plant the back side of your left paddle on the water to then in turn throw the bow of the boat underneath of you once more. Keep repeating these steps until you can continue them over and over and over again. If you have problems or get frustrated- go back to the Whirly Bird but nailing a flat water cartwheel helps you nail them in a hole so its a trick that is worth learning. Watching the video really helps as well with this one. User Contributions Really throw your weight around. -W. Harmon Have you got another way to do this trick or any suggestions for other paddlers?
