It
was Kyler Cooley who gave it the first shot. He dropped
in from the 'championship tee box' (a good 40 feet
higher than where everyone else was dropping) he pointed
it and easily cleared the jumps original landing and
run out, drifting 70 plus feet into the narrow gully
below.
The crowd erupted
in cheers and while Kyler
had all but sealed the victory. He wasn't about
to stop. In his second run at the gap he threw a 7 bigger
than his
first try at it. Again the crowd
erupted and again Kyler hiked up the runway. He was
far from being done and this time hiked even higher.Third
try, corked 7, stomped clean. Absolutely unbelievable.
The cheers of the crowd were a clear indication that
while the
competition
might linger on, he was the undisputed Hips-N-Lips champion.
Kyler wasn't the only one to have his way with
the 'Death Gap', Bodhi Murphy proved himself with smooth
cork 3 that drifted deep into the transition.
