“Comps
are a good place to sit back and watch people have serious
carnage.”
A competition is a gathering of riders to find out who is
the best among them, usually in an organized fashion with
some sort of reward for going biggest, fastest or with the
most style.
Back in the day most competitions were all about going fast
and followed an old school skiing format. They included events
like the slalom, the giant slalom and the dual slalom.
As the sport evolved the freestyle end has become much more
prominent and events such as the big air, half pipe and slope
style have emerged. Boarder cross has also become a very
popular event in the past few years. Boarder cross evolved
from slalom racing and includes a bit more freestyle and
some good carnage.
The Olympics officially adopted snowboarding into the winter
games in 1998 in Nagano, Japan. There were only four events,
which were the Men’s, and Women’s halfpipe and
giant slalom.
