Hip Pads
Other
wise known as: Ass Pad, Ass Protector,
Impact Pad, Butt Gear
Hip Pads
in snowboarding are just like hip pads in hockey, they are
gear designed to keep the bruises on your hips to a minimum
and to hopefully allow you to walk away after landing straight
on your tailbone. It may be SNOWboarding but damn that snow
is not always soft or deep.
As you
probably already know, you land on your ass a lot when snowboarding
no matter how good you are. Wether it be the constant falling
down when you are learning to carve or catching edges learning
spins or smashing chunks of ice when you are racing boardercross
it seems like your butt gets most of the abuse.
The pads
are typically made of a combination of molded padding, closed
cell padding, neoprene and mesh and are designed to be low
profile and not make you look like you have a fat ass when
you are riding.
Fit
The hip pads should fit comfortably and should not fall
down (that sucks riding with them around your knees). They are designed to get
as much air through them as possible but your going to sweat so it is best to
have on some sort of wicking layer between your butt and the pads. You will want
to make sure that your snow pants still fit over the top of them.
