Learning The Trick

General Overview

Kick one leg straight and in front of the body while the other leg is bent and kicked behind the body. Resembles a split in the air.

Preparation

Not so sure if this would be considered crazy but you’ll want plenty of air for this trick so find a good size jump.

Doing It

Assume the position and pop off the lip.

Once in flight, bring one leg forward keeping it straight. Bring the other leg back and bend it so the tip of the ski is facing straight down. Make sure you raise your legs at the same time or you’ll start to spin. Extend your arms out to the side for balance.

Finishing

Then, bring your legs back together and land.

Mastering The Trick

Adding Style

Try doing a Double Daffy where you do two separate Daffys, one with the right, then one with the left.

HISTORY

I have a friend who insists I invented the daffy. He is a well known skier and has been in the thick of the freestyle/ski/movie business for 40 years so I have to say that he knows what he's talking about. I am a bit skeptical as there are a lot of inovators out there who certainly may have come up with it before me. For what its worth this was about 1968 at Ski Acres, (now Summit East?), Washington on Snoqualmie Pass. Another friend, Bill Leopold, named the manuever "Curdle Fresent" which is a play on the words "Fertile Cresent" located in the middle east....no idea why, but he was pretty imaginative. We called it Curdle Fresent for several years until, at Chevrolett's Freestyle Championship we heard it called a Daffy. Daffy obviously stuck. If anyone can set us straight by predating my efforts please let us know. Eric Lindahl in Seattle
