An implosion bar is a piece of rigid metal or plastic that is sewn into a spray skirt that helps keep a spray skirt from popping off during times of immense pressure on the deck of the spray skirt. The implosion bar usually sits about halfway between the tunnel and the front grab loop and rests on top of the cockpit rim.
Times of immense pressure often refers to times such as impacting with the water after dropping a water fall or when the whole front of the kayak is loaded up before performing a trick in a hole, like doing a loop.
