Learning The Trick

General Overview

Coming out of the air, after a jump, facing uphill/backwards/Switch/Fakie.

Preparation

Before you try this make sure you can ski switch and take off switch first.

Doing It

Landing switch for the first time can be a little scary because you’re literally falling backwards. So, start off small first and work your way up to bigger airs. After a few switch landings you’ll begin to feel more and more comfortable.

As you come close to the landing, I like to keep my eyes focused on the landing. I like to look over the shoulder opposite to the direction I was spinning or the same shoulder as I took off if doing a zero spin.

If you need to make any adjustments before touch down use your upper-body not your lower-body. Make sure you keep your knees up at your chest.

Finishing

Just before you touch down extend your legs to absorb the impact, but make sure you keep your skis shoulder width apart so you don’t eat your knees. I like to try and land not even thinking about my skis but just my feet. Try to touch down with your tips do it rather than with your tails first. Gather yourself and ski away like it was nothing.

Mastering The Trick

Common Mistakes

What do you not do?

General Tips

  • One mistake people tend to make is looking up the hill towards the take-off instead of at the landing. Try looking back a bit just beyond your heels and down at the landing.

Other Tricks

  • If you have landing switch down, try a 180.
