Learning The Trick
General Overview
The Lincoln Loop is an inverted aerial trick that consists of no rotations parallel to the ground but rather perpendicular. It should like like a cartwheel in the air or like the hands on a clock rotating.
Preparation
You are going to want to be comfortable going inverted and going big.
Doing It
Once you clear the lip of the jump, initiate your Lincoln Loop by swinging your right arm down toward the heel of your right ski. That arm will generate the momentum to carry your skis up and over like hands on a clock. Grab your right ski under the heelpiece of the binding and try to tweak it out. Remember two things.
First, get your left hand out to help set your rotation and serve as a pointer to keep your body going in the correct direction.
Second, remember that your tips should always be facing forward during the loop. If you start to look backward you will do something that is more like a Rodeo Flip. As you come around out of the Lincoln Loop rotation, spot your landing.
As you are spinning make sure to focus on a point in the distance and tuck slightly to speed up your rotation or untuck to slow down.
Finishing
As you see your landing coming up make sure to loosen up (to slow your rotation) and keep your eyes trained on the landing. Finally bend your knees and stomp it.
Mastering The Trick
Common Mistakes
Its pretty easy to get slightly off center with the jump which will put you into a Lincoln Loop 180
General Tips
- You probably want to test your kicker with a few easy grabs or spins before you huck something inverted.
- With most inverted tricks it is super important to be 100% committed to the trick. Bailing out halfway usually results in a lot of pain.
- Try to keep your eyes focused on something in front of you, whether it be a friend, a tree, or anything else that is directly in front of you, to keep yourself from spinning.
Adding Style
A grab is almost necessary to keep your arms from sprawling and throwing off your spin. So you may as well make it a good stylish grab.
Other Tricks
- This trick is very similar to a Lincoln Loop 180
