Lip
Other wise known as:
“The lip on that jump sucked, that is why I couldn’t land that switch 1080.”
The lip of the jump is the very last part you will hit on your way to being airborne. The lip is ultimately responsible for how the jump feels and how it shoots the snowboarder. It is important that the lip is shaped and angled well or the jump will suck.
Different shapes on the lip of jumps make some tricks easier then others. A cheese wedge shaped jump has minimal upward facing lip while a quarter pipe is the exact opposite and its lip should point straight up.
A lip closer to 45 degrees is typically best for going farthest and is ideal for gaps.
A 90 degree lip is what is found on quarter pipes and half pipes and is designed to only send the snowboarder straight into the air and not off at some angle because they want to land near the same place they became airborne.
