“He is normally a goofy rider but he mounted his board regular and pretends to hit everything switch, poser!”

Riding switch means that you are riding with the opposite foot forward then you normally would. If you are normally regular footed you would be riding switch if you had your right foot forward. If you have your right foot forward normally (your goofy) you would need to be riding with your left foot forward to be going switch.

It is super important to learn how to ride switch as you progress because so many aspects of the freestyle side of the sport require you to either start riding backwards or land backwards.

A good way to get better at riding switch is to just make yourself do it for an hour every day that you ride. Pick a time when you aren’t too tired (like the end of the day or before lunch) or are too anxious to go get freshies (like the beginning of the day) and will just get pissed you aren’t riding as fast as you normally do.

Also on the crappy days when everything is either super tracked out or way to icy go find some mellow groomed runs and practice riding switch all day. After you are feeling more confident with the opposite foot forward then practice making turns around obstacles. Don’t use trees right away as obstacles because they don’t move when you hit them. If you are really feeling confident you can also practice ollies and manuals riding switch.
